Proud of our achievements!

This year the Preps have learnt so much! Check out the growth in writing ability from the beginning of the year until now…

Congratulations on all of your hard work and all the best in Year One, Prep A!!

The beautiful preps at the end of year celebration concert

The four Prep classes were “Little Rays of Sunshine” as they performed up on the big stage on Monday’s Celebration Concert. As the end of year rapidly approaches the song choices were very appropriate and well chosen by Miss Wencel. Making new friends in Year One and beyond will be fun but the children will always remember the connections they made in Prep…

And as the years go by
Our friendship will never die
You’re gonna see it’s our destiny
You’ve got a friend in me

Enjoy the happy snaps.

Werribee Zoo Excursion

Today the four Prep classes went to the Werribee Zoo. As Habitat Detectives we all participated in a workshop where we could use our senses to find animals, build animal habitats, use detective tools, pat a blue tongue lizard and we even got a very close look at some giraffe poop!

After a quick play on the zoo’s adventure playground we walked around to see some silver back gorillas, cheetahs and hippos. The best part of the day was heading on an African Safari in a special safari bus with no windows. While it was a little bit dusty at times we still managed to see giraffes, rhinos, zebras, elands, wildebeests, ostriches and plenty of Australian native animals.

Bang! We saw the zoo rangers feed the giant silver back gorillas out of a cannon! Yes a real cannon – filled with slices of apple, oranges and bananas. They fired it into the enclosure, much to the delight of the Preps who watched the three gorillas have their afternoon tea.

This week we received our certificates for walking to school during Walk to School month in October. Well done to Montana who walked to school the most and received a special prize.

Looking back at photos from the beginning of the year I cannot believe how much this group of kids have grown and matured. They have been a beautiful group of kids from the start and they will be equally fabulous grade ones!

Cardboard Cart Rally

Today we finally got to race the cardboard carts that we made earlier in the week. Our carts had a living things theme to match our Inquiry unit this term. Our terms were:

Snakes, Bugs, Polar Bears, Leopards and Birds.

Children came dressed as their animal and really got into the spirit of sportsmanship by trying their best and cheering on all teams. Well done to a team in Prep B who won the Prep race. Here we are with our teams and our beautiful carts…

Off and racing…

Congratulations Charlie!!

In last week’s assembly we found out that through the Commonwealth Bank school banking scheme Charlie won an iPad! Being in Charlie’s birthday week made it extra special. Well done Charlie!

After some footy maths we practiced some footy skills on the oval.

How to Make fruit kebabs

As part of writing this term we are learning how to be teachers and teach somebody how to do something! Today we made fruit kebabs by first preparing all of the fruit. Look how well we are working together!

We wrote the procedure for making a kebab to teach others how to do it too.

Here are Lyla, Charlotte and Naoise’s examples:

100 Days at School

Congratulations on achieving 100 days at school Preps! Today we participated in many activities around the number 100 and had loads of fun dressing up. We made special books, crowns, counted out 100 gum balls and did all sorts of fitness relating around the number 100.

We are now 100 days smarter! Here are our celebration photos:

In maths we used objects like straws, toothpicks, blocks to first sort into groups of 10 and then count by 10 up to 100. Then we worked in teams to build towers using our 100 building materials. Some were harder than others!

We used an app called Aging Booth to make us really look 100:

Even our teacher was 100 today!

To end the day we sang “Happy 100 Days to You” and had some special cake:
